The Territory

The Cilento area is safeguarded into the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park and protected by UNESCO as “World Heritage Site“. Each town of Cilento, even the smallest one, was a background of worthy of memory events and keeps in the name or in places the traces of the notable past.

AGROPOLI: The lively town rises on a high promontory which gives the name´s origin: it derives from the greek word ´akropolis´, that is town placed at the top. The castle, characterized by the Byzantine system, and the medieval village are the ideal frame for a visit to typical handicraft shops or for a delicous break in one of many restaurants, bars, cafès� The sea and beaches are enchanting, in particular way the small Trentova bay and the place named ´il Vallone´, where you can also find some medieval ruins.
Agropoli can be considered a starting place to visit localities with which our structure is well connected as:

PAESTUM: was built in 7th century b.C., the charming greek town is one of the most well-known complex in the world. it's well-known for its temples, museum, and the mozzarella production at which you can assist in some cheese-factories presents in this area.
For the museum the cost of the entrance ticket (Museum+'Tsunami'+Velia ruins) is 11,00 euro valid 3 days — Free for less than 18 years old people and more than 65 years old people — 5,00 euro for who has an age between 18 and 25 years old and for teachers with a permanent contract. Timetables: 08,30 — 18,45 everyday but the first and the third day of each month close for maintenance.

CASTELLABATE: The medieval village winds along the majestic Castle of the Abbot, St. Costabile Gentilcore (12th cent.). From many panoramic points, you can admire the long coast of Santa Maria, the luxuriant vegetation of Punta Licosa´s oasis and Acciaroli sea teeming with fish. Renowned for the movie 'Benvenuti al Sud' too.

VELIA: The ancient native land of the philosophs Parmenide and Zenone (6th -5th b.C.), seat of the famous eleatic school amazes the visitor with its majestic walls and the imposing ´Pink Door´ (6th b.C.) to give evidence of the abundace reached by the greek colony. The under beach of Ascea is a spectacle for its crystalline waters and the lonely inlets.

PALINURO: According to the legend, the Head Palinuro takes its name from Enea´s helmsman, who fell down in these waters, betrayed by God of Sleep. Together the next place of Camerota, Palinuro is well-known for its limpid waters and for the famous beauty of the coast, in which there are the splendid ´Grotta Azzurra´ and the ´Arco Naturale´.

From Agropoli harbour all the places of Cilento coast and Amalfi coast are easily reachable by ferry and by hydrofoil, and the isle of Capri can also be reachable by ferry in about an hour.

GROTTE DI CASTELCIVITA: one of the largest speleological areas in the South of Italy and dating back to 40.000 years ago. The cost of ticket is 10,00 euro per person — the students pay 6,00 euro — reduced 8,00 euro for children 6-12 years and groups more tan 20 people. It needs to reserve the day before. Summer Timetable (01-04-30/09) in the morning the entrance is at 13:30 12:30 13:30. In the afternoon is at 15:00 — 16:30 — 18:00. Winter timetable (March and October) in the morning the entrance is at 10:30 -12:00; in the afternoon is at 13:30 — 15:00 . In the months of November, December, January and February opening is just on reservation.

VATOLLA: a small medieval suburb which has the Vico Museum inside od the Palace Vargas, place in which developed the philosophical mind of Giambattista Vico. Th ticket costs 1,50 euro per person - for groups more than 10 people 1,00 euro. Timetable: Monday -Sunday 8,00-13,00 and 14,00-18,00.

POMPEI AND ERCOLANO: where you can admire the famous archeological sites and their ruins. The cost of the full ticket 11,00 euro — reduced 5,50 euro for citizen CE of age between 18 and 25 years old and for teacher with a premanent contract. With access in Pompei, Oplontis, Stabia, Antiquarium of Boscoreale — valid three days 20,00 euro — reduced 10,00 euro for citizens CE of age between 18 and 25 years old and fo teachere with a permanent contract. With access at Olplontis, Stabia, Antiquarium of Boscoreale the cost of the full ticket 5,50 euro — reduced 2,75 euro for citizen CE of age between 18 and 25 years old and for teachers with a premanent contract. Timetable: from the 1st of November to 31 March everyday from 8:30 to17:00; from the 1st April to 31st October everyday from 8:30 to 19:30 (last entrance at 15:30)

PADULA: It's famous for its Charterhouse and its museum of regional interest for the detective Joe Petrosino. The cost of the ticket to visit the Charterhouse for people from 18 years old to 24 years old thay pay 2,00 euro. From 25 years old to 64 years old they pay 4,00 euro. For people untill 17 years old and more than 65 years old they don't pay. It's open from Monday to Sunday from 9:00 to 20:00. The ticket for the museum is 2,50 euro for adults. For groups more than 11 people the cost of ticket is 1,50 euro. Students from high school the cost of ticket is 1,00 euro. For less than 5 years old children it's free.
